MAGNELIQ “Magneto-Electric Liquid – to Sense Better”

Darja Lisjak
Jožef Stefan Institute, Department for Materials Synthesis

Abstract:

A new FETOPEN project, MAGNELIQ that started on 1. 11. 2020 at Jožef Stefan Institute will be presented. The project aims to significantly advance our complementary research of ferromagnetic liquids done at the Department for Materials Synthesis and Department of Complex Matter. After the development of a ferromagnetic liquid-crystalline suspension and ferromagnetic fluids, we aim to develop a magneto-electric liquid. This will be made possible by complementing experimental studies (Jožef Stefan Institute and Czech Academy of Sciences, Prague) with theoretical modelling (Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, Trieste). New sensing technologies will be developed from the magneto-electric liquid (University of Maribor and Prensilia SRL, Pisa), e.g., miniature, contactless all-optical rotation sensors and sensors of electric/magnetic field, and large-area distributed-force sensors for prosthetics and robotic manipulators.

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 899285.

The seminar will take place via Zoom. The details for connecting to the meeting can be found below:
